Status: Resolved February 15, 2025. Paramount channels did not disappear from YouTube TV after the threatened February 13 deadline. YouTube TV first secured a short-term extension while negotiations continued, then announced a completed agreement with Paramount two days later. The dispute is therefore a resolved 2025 carriage dispute, not an active unresolved blackout threat in 2026.
What happened to Paramount channels on YouTube TV?
YouTube TV subscribers faced a possible loss of Paramount programming in February 2025 after the companies’ carriage agreement approached its expiration. The threatened blackout was avoided in two stages:
- February 12, 2025: YouTube TV warned that Paramount content could become unavailable after February 13 if a renewal agreement was not reached.
- February 13, 2025: YouTube TV announced a short-term extension, keeping the channels available while talks continued.
- February 15, 2025: YouTube TV announced that it had reached a longer-term deal with Paramount to continue carrying the networks.
The phrase “stay of execution” describes the February 13 extension. It was an interim reprieve, not the final settlement. The decisive outcome came with the agreement announced on February 15.

Which channels were at risk?
YouTube TV’s warning covered Paramount programming carried through the service. The major networks named or associated with the dispute included:
- CBS
- CBS Sports
- Nickelodeon
- MTV
- Comedy Central
- BET
- Paramount Network
- Other Paramount-owned networks and related services
This should not be read as a universal channel list for every subscriber. Local CBS availability depends on the viewer’s designated market, while add-ons such as Paramount+ with SHOWTIME and BET+ are separate from the main YouTube TV lineup.

What the temporary extension meant for subscribers
During the extension, subscribers could continue watching the affected Paramount channels, including CBS and CBS Sports. YouTube TV also said that existing Library recordings from those channels would remain accessible.

That meant most customers did not need to cancel YouTube TV or immediately sign up for another service on February 13. However, the extension did not permanently settle the dispute. It simply preserved access while the two companies negotiated.
Why were YouTube TV and Paramount arguing?
The disagreement involved a carriage agreement: the contract that sets the fees and other terms under which YouTube TV distributes Paramount’s networks.
YouTube TV said it wanted a renewal agreement that would avoid passing additional costs on to subscribers. Paramount, according to contemporary reporting by CBS News, accused YouTube TV of seeking “one-sided” and “non-market” terms.

The companies did not publicly disclose the full commercial agreement or every negotiating position. It is more accurate to describe the dispute as a disagreement over carriage fees and broader renewal terms than to reduce it to a precisely documented percentage price increase or channel-tier demand.

What would subscribers have lost in a blackout?
If negotiations had failed, YouTube TV warned that Paramount content could become unavailable. The potential impact included:
- Live access to the affected Paramount channels
- Local CBS programming where CBS was part of the subscriber’s market lineup
- CBS sports coverage carried through YouTube TV
- Existing Library recordings from affected channels
- Related add-ons, including Paramount+ with SHOWTIME and BET+
YouTube TV also said it would offer an $8 credit if Paramount content remained unavailable for an extended period. That was a contingency policy, not an automatic payment triggered by the brief extension.
Was Paramount+ a replacement for YouTube TV?
YouTube TV pointed viewers toward Paramount+ as an alternative if a blackout occurred. Paramount+ can be useful for people who mainly want Paramount movies, series, originals, Nickelodeon programming or eligible CBS content. But it is not a like-for-like replacement for YouTube TV.

Important differences include:
- Paramount+ is a separate subscription rather than a full live-TV bundle.
- Live CBS availability depends on the plan and market.
- It does not recreate YouTube TV’s complete national cable, local-channel or sports lineup.
- It does not necessarily provide every linear network carried by YouTube TV.
- Its interface, DVR features and channel experience differ from YouTube TV’s cloud-DVR service.
Viewers should check the official Paramount+ service page for current plan details and availability. The $7.99 starting price mentioned in YouTube TV’s February 2025 notice was historical and should not be treated as a current 2026 price.

What the final deal changed
On February 15, 2025, YouTube announced an agreement with Paramount to continue carrying the company’s channels. The announcement specifically referenced CBS, CBS Sports, Nickelodeon and more, along with continued access to YouTube TV’s broader lineup and related add-ons, including Paramount+ with SHOWTIME.
CBS News reported on the completed agreement, which ended the immediate blackout threat. The public announcement did not guarantee that YouTube TV would never face another carriage dispute or future price change, nor did it publish a known expiration date that should be treated as current here.

The 2025 Paramount dispute by itself was not a reason to cancel after the February 15 deal. A better decision depends on how your household uses the service:

Sports viewers should be especially careful: CBS and CBS Sports are not interchangeable, and Paramount+ is not automatically equivalent to YouTube TV’s full sports offering. Likewise, no replacement service should be assumed to preserve YouTube TV Library recordings.

YouTube TV remains the relevant product for households that want a broad live-TV bundle with local channels, sports and cloud DVR. Its official product page is the appropriate place to check current availability and pricing rather than relying on figures from the 2025 dispute.
What this means for future carriage disputes
Streaming-TV services still depend on negotiated distribution rights. A temporary extension can prevent a blackout without resolving every long-term business issue, as the February 13 sequence demonstrated. The later February 15 agreement shows why an alarming deadline does not necessarily mean viewers should cancel immediately.
If another dispute arises, check the provider’s latest notice before changing services. Confirm whether the warning affects your local CBS market, national networks, recordings, sports rights or separately billed add-ons. Do not assume that a direct-to-consumer app duplicates the live-TV bundle you already use.
