On current devices, “Kindle Fire” usually means an Amazon Fire tablet. To remove websites visited in Amazon Silk, open Silk Browser → Menu → Settings → Privacy (or Privacy and security) → Clear browsing data, select Browsing history, and confirm. Menu names can differ on older Fire OS and Silk versions.
Clear browsing history in Silk
- Open Silk Browser on your Fire tablet.
- Tap the browser Menu icon, usually three vertical dots.
- Tap Settings.
- Open Privacy or Privacy and security.
- Choose Clear browsing data, Clear browser data, or a similarly named option.
- Select Browsing history. Select other categories only if you also want to remove them.
- Tap Clear data, Clear, or OK to confirm.
Amazon documents Silk as the browser supplied with Fire tablets and notes that its interface can change between versions. See Amazon’s Silk overview and version information for background.
Afterward, deleted entries should no longer appear in Silk’s history list. Previously open tabs, bookmarks, downloads, and activity stored by websites or online accounts may still remain.

Do not automatically select every category if you only want to remove the list of visited pages. Silk treats browsing history, cookies, cached files, and other data separately.

Amazon’s Fire web-environment documentation distinguishes history from cookies, form data, application cache, and other stored information. The exact choices available in consumer Silk depend on the tablet and browser version.
A faster route through the History screen
Some Silk versions expose a History screen with a Clear or Clear all control. If your browser menu includes History, open it and look for that option. If it is not available, use Menu → Settings → Privacy and look for the clear-data control instead.

Use private browsing on a Fire tablet
- Open Silk Browser.
- Tap the browser Menu.
- Choose Enter Private Browsing or Private Browsing.
- Browse in the private tab or window.
- Exit private browsing when finished.
The wording and location can vary between Silk builds. Amazon identifies private browsing as a Silk feature, but it should be understood as a way to reduce ordinary browser traces on the tablet—not as anonymity.

Private browsing is useful when you do not want a normal browsing session to become part of the browser history visible on the device. It does not necessarily prevent:

- Websites from recording visits in their own server logs.
- Search engines or online services from associating activity with a signed-in account.
- Your internet provider, workplace, school, household network, or parental-control system from observing or filtering traffic.
- Websites from identifying a session through technologies that are still available in that browser session.
- Downloaded files from remaining on the tablet.
Private browsing also does not delete records already stored in Silk, an Amazon account, a website account, or a different browser. For sensitive accounts, sign out when appropriate and use secure connections, but do not treat private browsing as a replacement for account-security or network-privacy measures.
Clearing Silk history is not the same as clearing Kindle or Amazon activity
Silk history covers websites visited through Silk. It is separate from:

- Browsing or viewing records saved to an Amazon account.
- History in another browser or app.
Clearing Silk history does not delete website server records, Amazon account activity, bookmarks, screenshots, or downloaded documents. If your goal is to remove Kindle reading or shopping activity, Silk is the wrong place to start.

Try these steps in order:
- Open Silk and check both Settings → Privacy and the History screen.
- In Silk, open Menu → Settings → About Silk to see the installed application and browser/build version.
- Check for available Fire tablet or Silk updates.
- Close and reopen Silk, then restart the tablet.
- Identify the tablet at Settings → Device Options → Device Model or About Fire Tablet. Amazon’s device documentation explains that names such as Fire HD 8 and Fire HD 10 describe screen size and do not, by themselves, identify the generation.
Older Fire tablets may not show the same controls as newer models. Fire Kids profiles and parental-control settings can also restrict browser access or present a different interface. If Silk is not installed, check the app library for Silk Browser and confirm that the device is a Fire tablet rather than an e-ink Kindle reader. Silk is intended for Fire tablets and other supported Amazon devices.

Last resort: clear Silk’s app data
Fire OS app-management settings may offer a way to clear Silk’s app data. Treat this as a last resort, not the normal method for deleting history. App-data deletion is broader than clearing browsing history and may remove browser settings, sign-ins, saved information, and other local data. The exact settings path varies by Fire OS version, so use the standard Silk privacy controls first.
Why history may appear to come back
If entries reappear, check whether you are viewing a different Fire profile, another browser, or account-level activity rather than Silk’s local history. A website or online service can also retain its own record after local browser data has been deleted. These are separate from the history list stored by Silk on the tablet.
Privacy settings beyond clearing history
Silk includes privacy settings that may vary by version. Amazon documents a Do Not Track control under Settings → Privacy, but enabling it is only a request to websites; sites are not required to honor it. See Amazon’s Silk Do Not Track documentation for the feature’s scope.
