Love Life was briefly a Netflix Top 10 success after both seasons arrived on the service in August 2025. But the romantic-comedy anthology is no longer included with Netflix in the United States: its U.S. license expired in early February 2026.
That makes the show a notable catalog rediscovery, not a current Netflix hit or a Netflix revival. Here’s what happened, what the series is about, and where U.S. viewers can watch it now.

What is Love Life?
Created by Sam Boyd, Love Life is a romantic-comedy anthology series that follows one protagonist’s romantic and personal development per season. It originally premiered on HBO Max on May 27, 2020.
The series has two seasons and 20 episodes in total. Season 1 follows Darby Carter, played by Anna Kendrick, while Season 2 shifts to Marcus Watkins, played by William Jackson Harper. Set largely in New York City, the show moves beyond dating to examine friendship, marriage, infidelity, career changes, family expectations and adulthood.

Why was it considered a “forgotten” HBO Max series?
“Forgotten” is an editorial description rather than a measurable fact, but it captures the show’s unusual history. Love Life was one of HBO Max’s early original series, arriving near the service’s launch. It never developed into a major long-running franchise, and HBO Max’s successor, Max, canceled it after two seasons in 2022.
The series was also removed from its original streaming home. As a result, its later appearance on Netflix felt less like a standard catalog update and more like a rediscovery of a show many viewers had missed the first time.
How Netflix gave the show a second audience
Netflix added both seasons to its U.S. catalog on August 5, 2025, then published an editorial explainer through Tudum on August 7. The move placed an existing 20-episode series in front of a much larger general streaming audience than it had reached as a platform-specific HBO Max title.
Contemporary coverage reported that Love Life appeared in Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 shortly after arriving. That is meaningful evidence of renewed interest: viewers were choosing the show often enough for it to rank among the service’s most-watched titles during that period.

It does not, however, establish that the series was a massive global hit. There is no cited Netflix viewing-hours figure, long-running chart streak or all-time popularity ranking supporting that broader claim. The most accurate description is that Love Life became a brief Netflix Top 10 success after moving from HBO Max.
The show’s compact half-hour episodes, recognizable cast and self-contained seasonal structure likely made it easy for Netflix viewers to sample. Its stories also deal with familiar experiences—breakups, hookups, marriage, friendship and career uncertainty. Those are reasonable explanations for its renewed visibility, but they are interpretation rather than directly measured audience data.
Season 1 vs. Season 2
Season 1: Darby’s romantic history
Anna Kendrick leads the first season as Darby Carter. The story follows her relationships and personal growth from the early 2010s through 2019, showing how individual romantic experiences accumulate into a broader understanding of identity and love.
Its themes include career uncertainty, friendship, infidelity, sobriety and family. The season is less interested in presenting one perfect romance than in showing how several relationships can shape a person before they reach greater emotional maturity.
Season 2: Marcus rebuilding his life
William Jackson Harper takes over as Marcus Watkins in Season 2. Marcus is dealing with the collapse of his marriage and the difficult process of dating and rebuilding his life afterward.

The second season focuses more directly on divorce, adulthood, race and workplace identity, family expectations and Marcus’s relationship with Mia, played by Jessica Williams. Its emotional center is different from Darby’s: rather than tracing early romantic development, it explores what happens when an established adult life has to be reconstructed.

Still, watching Season 1 first provides useful context for the show’s format and recurring world.
Was Love Life really a streaming hit?
Briefly, on Netflix’s U.S. chart—but the evidence does not support calling it a major long-term hit.
There is a useful distinction between several kinds of success:
- Chart success: Supported. Contemporary reporting placed the show in Netflix’s U.S. Top 10 after its August 2025 arrival.
- Large-scale Netflix breakout: Not established. The available evidence does not provide total viewing hours, a precise audience size or a sustained global ranking.
- Long-term revival: No. Netflix licensed or added the existing two-season catalog; it did not revive the series.
- Franchise continuation: No Season 3 is available or confirmed.
So the headline was fair during the 2025 discovery cycle if “hit” meant a noticeable Top 10 resurgence. It is misleading today if it suggests that Love Life remains on Netflix or that Netflix ordered more episodes.

Is there a Season 3?
No. Love Life was canceled after two seasons in 2022, and no third season is currently available or confirmed.
The anthology format means a third season could theoretically have followed another character, but that is only a feature of the show’s structure—not evidence of an active continuation or a Netflix renewal.

As of the latest U.S. availability information cited for July and August 2026, Love Life is not included with a Netflix subscription and has no listed free streaming option.
Netflix’s U.S. license expired in early February 2026. Public listings vary between February 4, February 5 and February 6, likely reflecting differences between the final available day, catalog removal timing and local time-zone conventions.
Digital purchase options have been listed through marketplaces including Amazon Video and Fandango At Home. JustWatch reported a starting point of approximately $12.99 per season in its July 28, 2026 U.S. check. Prices, formats, retailer availability and account-region restrictions can change, so verify the exact listing at checkout.

Availability is territory-dependent. A title’s absence from U.S. Netflix does not prove that it has been removed from every country’s catalog.
Who should watch it?
Love Life is a good fit if you enjoy half-hour romantic dramedies, character-driven anthology series and New York relationship stories. It is especially appealing to viewers who like Anna Kendrick, William Jackson Harper or Jessica Williams, or who prefer dating stories that eventually examine marriage, identity, family and adult responsibility.
The anthology format is also a practical advantage. If Darby’s story does not connect with you, Marcus’s season has a different tone and set of concerns. Conversely, viewers looking for a tightly serialized romance should know that the series is about the cumulative effect of relationships rather than one uninterrupted love story.

Love Life genuinely found a second life on Netflix in 2025, including a reported appearance in the U.S. Top 10. But that success was brief. The show is now a canceled, two-season HBO Max series that Netflix exposed to a new audience for roughly six months before its U.S. license ended in early February 2026.
For U.S. viewers, Netflix is no longer the way to watch it. If you specifically want the series, check digital purchase listings; if you are simply looking for a current Netflix discovery, treat Love Life as a story about catalog circulation—not as a show still available on the service.
