MSM Download Tool can restore stock OxygenOS on many software-bricked OnePlus Nord and Nord N10 5G phones, but only when the phone is detected in Qualcomm Emergency Download Mode (EDL) and the firmware package matches the exact model and region. This Windows-only procedure is destructive: expect a factory-style wipe, and do not use it until you have ruled out recovery or fastboot methods that might preserve data.
The original Nord and Nord N10 5G use different MSM packages. Nord CE firmware is different again. Treating these devices as interchangeable is one of the fastest ways to create a more difficult recovery problem.
When MSM Download Tool is the right fix
MSM Download Tool is a Windows graphical flasher that uses Qualcomm EDL to write a bundled OnePlus firmware package, commonly containing an OFP image and a compatible Qualcomm loader. It operates below Android, so it can work when the operating system, recovery, or fastboot installation is damaged.

Use it when:
- The phone is stuck at the OnePlus logo or in a boot loop.
- A failed update or custom-ROM installation has damaged the software.
- Recovery and fastboot no longer work.
- Windows detects the phone as Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COMx).
- You have verified an MSM package for the exact phone model and region.
MSM is not a universal cure for a dead phone. If the device never appears over USB, has liquid or impact damage, has a damaged charging port, or repeatedly fails while writing the same partition, hardware failure is possible.

First identify the phone
Do not download an archive until you know which Nord you own. Check the retail box, purchase record, carrier documentation, SIM tray, or any remaining label. If the phone still boots to recovery or fastboot, identify the model there before proceeding.

Before you begin
- A stable Windows PC. The documented N10 package requires Windows and is not intended for macOS or Linux. Windows 10 or 11 is preferable, although old tools may behave differently on modern Windows.
- The exact MSM package for your model, region, carrier edition, and supported OxygenOS base.
- A working Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 driver.
- A known-good USB data cable and a direct USB port. Avoid hubs.
- Administrator access to Windows.
- A decompression utility to extract the archive completely.
- As much battery charge as the phone can accept.
- A backup, if Android, recovery, or fastboot still lets you access one.
Data warning: A full MSM restoration should be treated as data-destructive. Do not assume internal files will survive.

Security warning: MSM archives are often reposted by third parties. Do not trust a random “patched,” “cracked,” or password-protected executable. Modified flashers and Qualcomm loaders can contain malware. Prefer the original package discussion or a reputable, verifiable source, and do not disable antivirus protection unless it is demonstrably quarantining a legitimate file. Restore protection immediately afterward.
Choose the package carefully
The package must match all of the following:
- Original Nord versus Nord N10 5G.
- Model or carrier variant.
- Regional identity, such as global, Indian, European, T-Mobile, Metro, or another carrier edition.
- The firmware and OxygenOS base bundled with the archive.
EDL firmware may check an internal region identity. A package that looks close enough can still be rejected, and cross-flashing can leave the device in a state where the correct tool or image no longer works as expected. A documented N10 case involved incompatible cross-flashing and later image-mismatch errors; see the community troubleshooting report.
The source threads for the two devices are useful starting points, but they are old and third-party-hosted. Check the package name, region, build, source, and archive integrity before using it. If you cannot verify the package identity, stop and contact OnePlus support rather than trying random downloads.

Install the Qualcomm 9008 driver
Install a reputable Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 driver before connecting the phone in EDL. Microsoft’s Update Catalog lists a Qualcomm 9008 driver associated with hardware ID USBVID_05C6&PID_9008; the listing is available here.

- Open Device Manager in Windows.
- Expand Ports (COM & LPT).
- After connecting the phone in EDL, look for Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COMx).
QHUSB_BULK, Unknown USB Device, or a yellow warning icon usually means Windows has detected the low-level USB interface but the appropriate driver is missing or incorrectly assigned. Fix the driver before opening MSM. Do not treat driver-signature disabling as a routine step: it weakens Windows security and should only be considered for a specific, trusted legacy driver when safer signed-driver options fail.
Enter EDL mode
Nord N10 5G
The documented N10 5G sequence is:
- Shut the phone down completely.
- Hold Volume Up + Volume Down simultaneously.
- While holding both buttons, connect the USB cable to the Windows PC.
- Keep holding the buttons until Device Manager detects the Qualcomm device.

Original OnePlus Nord
Do not automatically apply the N10 button sequence to the original Nord. EDL entry can depend on the device state, package, and revision. Use the button procedure documented for the specific Nord MSM package you have verified. If the phone never enumerates, a repair specialist may need to use a device-specific test-point procedure. Do not follow an unverified motherboard diagram: incorrect contacts can short components or damage the board.
Flash the firmware with MSM Download Tool
- Extract the complete archive to a simple folder, for example
C:Nord-MSM. Do not run the executable from inside a ZIP file. - Connect the phone in EDL and confirm Qualcomm HS-USB QDLoader 9008 (COMx) appears in Device Manager without a warning icon.
- Right-click the MSM executable and choose Run as administrator.
- Wait for the tool to display the connected COM port.
- Check the visible package or target name. It must correspond to the phone model and region you verified.
- Click Start.
MSM versions can have different layouts and labels. Follow the controls shown by your particular package rather than assuming every release looks identical.

Once flashing starts:
- Do not disconnect the cable.
- Do not press phone buttons.
- Do not close MSM.
- Prevent Windows from sleeping.
- Do not interrupt a temporary pause in the progress bar.
Disconnect only after the tool shows an unmistakably successful completion state, such as a completed progress indicator or “Download Complete.” The phone may reboot automatically. Its first boot after a full restore can take substantially longer than usual.
After the flash
- Allow the phone to boot fully instead of interrupting the first startup.
- Complete the Android setup screens.
- Connect to Wi-Fi.
- Open Settings → About device and check the installed OxygenOS version.
- Use the official update path if updates are offered for your region and device.
- Restore your backup and reinstall applications.
OnePlus’ official support and software-update entry points are OnePlus Support and the software upgrade page. Availability varies by region and device age.
Returning to stock OxygenOS does not, by itself, establish the phone’s post-flash bootloader state. Do not relock the bootloader with mismatched firmware. Check its state only after the phone boots, and use procedures appropriate to the exact model and package.

Alternatives to MSM
Official recovery update
If recovery still works and accepts a signed full OTA package, use that route first. It is less invasive than EDL and avoids installing an MSM executable and Qualcomm driver. Start with OnePlus Support.
Fastboot restoration
If fastboot still recognizes the phone, an advanced user may restore verified images for the exact model. This offers more control over individual partitions, but commands and partition layouts vary, some operations require an unlocked bootloader, and a wrong image can worsen the problem.
QDL and other EDL tools
The open-source QDL project can communicate with Qualcomm EDL devices, including USB ID 05C6:9008. It is not a drop-in replacement for a OnePlus MSM package: compatible loaders, XML files, firmware images, and technical knowledge are required. It is an advanced option, not the recommended first choice for most owners.

Use official OnePlus service or a qualified repair shop when the phone is not detected, the charging port or board may be damaged, the correct package cannot be verified, or the tool repeatedly fails at the same loader or partition stage. Official support is available at service.oneplus.com/global.
Stop conditions
Stop the procedure immediately if the tool reports an image mismatch, the package model or region is uncertain, the phone is not detected, the same error repeats, or hardware damage is suspected. The safest next step is to verify the package identity or obtain professional service—not to try another random MSM archive.
