To quickly show or hide the Favorites bar in desktop Microsoft Edge, press Ctrl + Shift + B on Windows or Command + Shift + B on Mac. For more control, open Settings and more (…) → Settings → Appearance → Toolbar, then set Favorites or Favorites bar to Always, Never, or Only on new tabs.
These settings control the bar’s visibility; they do not delete the websites saved in your favorites.
Show or hide the Favorites bar with a keyboard shortcut
Use the shortcut that matches your computer:
- Windows: Ctrl + Shift + B
- Mac: Command + Shift + B
Press the same shortcut again to reverse the change. This toggles the Favorites bar only. It does not add, remove, or delete individual saved websites. Microsoft lists these shortcuts in its Microsoft Edge keyboard-shortcut guide.
Change the Favorites bar setting in Edge
Microsoft’s current desktop Edge settings use labels such as Favorites or Favorites bar, depending on the version, operating system, or interface language.

- Open Microsoft Edge.
- Select Settings and more (…) in the upper-right corner.
- Select Settings.
- Open Appearance.
- Under the toolbar or other appearance settings, find Favorites or Favorites bar.
- Choose the display option you want.

Choose Always
Select Always to keep the Favorites bar visible in the browser toolbar area, near the address bar and tabs. This is useful if you regularly open saved sites and do not mind using some toolbar space.
Choose Never
Select Never to hide the bar from normal browser windows. Your saved favorites remain available through the Favorites menu and the full favorites-management page.

Choosing Never is therefore different from deleting the Favorites bar folder or its contents.
Choose Only on new tabs
Select Only on new tabs to display the bar on a new-tab page while hiding it when you browse other pages. This is a practical compromise if you want quick access to saved sites without keeping the bar visible all the time.
How to add a website to the Favorites bar
Adding the bar to the interface and adding a website to the bar are separate actions. To save the page you are currently viewing:

- Open the website in Edge.
- Select the Add this page to favorites button in the address bar, usually shown as a star.
- Change the name if necessary.
- Set the destination folder to Favorites bar.
- Select Done.
If Edge does not show the Favorites bar folder immediately, open the folder selector and choose it from the available favorites folders. Microsoft also documents an alternative route through Settings and more (…) → Favorites → More options, where you can choose Add this page to favorites. Add every currently open page
To save a group of open tabs, open Settings and more (…) → Favorites → More options, then select Add open pages to favorites. Choose the Favorites bar folder or another folder when prompted.
How to remove one website from the Favorites bar
To delete an individual saved website without hiding the entire bar:

- Right-click the favorite on the Favorites bar.
- Select Delete or Remove.
- Confirm the action if Edge asks you to.
The exact command can vary with Edge updates or your operating system’s language. Unlike choosing Never, deleting the item removes that saved favorite.
For more extensive changes, open Settings and more (…) → Favorites → More options → Open favorites page. From there you can rename, move, sort, create folders, and delete favorites. Microsoft describes these tools in its guide to organizing favorites in Edge.
Reorder and organize items on the bar
- Drag a favorite left or right to change its position.
- Drag a favorite into a folder to group related websites.
- Create folders for categories such as work, news, shopping, or research.
- Rename favorites with shorter titles to fit more items on the bar.
- Delete obsolete or duplicate entries.
- Use the full favorites page to sort items by name and manage larger collections.
Deleting or moving a favorite may affect other devices if it is synchronized with the same Edge profile.

Access favorites when the bar is hidden
You can still open saved websites after choosing Never. Use one of these methods:
- Open Settings and more (…) → Favorites.
- On Windows, press Ctrl + Shift + O to open Favorites.
- Select the Favorites button if it is available on your toolbar.
- Open the full favorites-management page from the Favorites menu.
The Ctrl + Shift + O shortcut opens favorites; it is separate from the shortcut that shows or hides the bar.
If the Favorites bar or saved favorites are missing
- Check the display setting. Go to Settings and more (…) → Settings → Appearance → Toolbar and check whether Favorites is set to Never or Only on new tabs.
- Try the correct shortcut. Use Ctrl + Shift + B on Windows or Command + Shift + B on Mac. Make sure Edge has keyboard focus.
- Open the Favorites menu. If the saved sites appear there, the issue is only the bar’s visibility or placement.
- Check the active profile. Select the profile icon and confirm that you are using the profile where the favorites were saved.
- Check synchronization. Go to Settings and more (…) → Settings → Profiles → Sync and confirm that favorites synchronization is enabled. Microsoft explains these options in its guide to changing Edge sync settings.
- Check other folders. The item may be in Other favorites or another folder rather than Favorites bar.
- Check for overflow. If the bar contains many items, some may be inside a folder or overflow control rather than displayed individually.
- Update Edge if the interface looks inconsistent. Menu names and layouts can change slightly between releases.
Favorites synchronization is profile-specific. A favorite saved under one Edge profile may not appear in another profile, even on the same computer. The same Microsoft account, active profile, and sync configuration must be used for synchronized favorites to appear across devices.

For keyboard navigation, F6 moves focus among major browser areas, including the Favorites bar when it is available. On Windows, Alt + Shift + B focuses the first item in the Favorites bar. Microsoft provides additional details in its Edge accessibility guide.
Desktop and mobile limitations
These instructions apply to current desktop Microsoft Edge on Windows and Mac. The cited Favorites-bar controls and desktop keyboard shortcuts should not be assumed to work the same way in Edge for iOS or Android, where the browser interface does not provide the same desktop toolbar.
