You can use an iPhone and a Samsung Galaxy tablet together, but there is no native Apple-to-Samsung service that keeps the devices fully mirrored. Samsung Smart Switch can copy selected data to the tablet once. For changes to keep appearing on both devices, use shared services such as Google Photos, Google Contacts and Calendar, or Microsoft Outlook and OneDrive. The right setup depends on whether you want a one-time move, ongoing sync, or occasional access to iCloud.
First, decide what you mean by “sync”
These terms describe different things, and confusing them is the reason many iPhone-to-Samsung guides overpromise:
- Transfer: Copy selected data from the iPhone to the tablet once. Samsung Smart Switch is designed for this job; it does not keep the devices continuously in sync.
- Ongoing sync: Keep data in a shared account or service so changes made on one device can appear on the other. Google and Microsoft services are common options.
- Cloud access: View data stored in iCloud through a browser or compatible app. This is not the same as having that data integrated into Samsung’s apps.
- File sharing: Send an individual file, photo, or video when needed.
There is no complete iCloud equivalent that turns a Samsung tablet into an extension of an iPhone. Apple’s iCloud services are designed primarily for Apple devices, and some can be reached on Android through the web. For most mixed-device households, the practical arrangement is Smart Switch for the initial move, then Google or Microsoft as the shared home for the data that needs to stay current.

Move selected data once with Samsung Smart Switch
Smart Switch is Samsung’s supported migration tool for copying selected content from an iPhone or iCloud account to a Galaxy device, including supported Galaxy tablets. Samsung lists contacts, calendar data, notes, call history, bookmarks, photos, videos, documents, and voice memos among possible transfer categories. The exact categories depend on the source, transfer method, model, software, account, and where the data is stored. It is a transfer, not a continuing two-way sync. Before you start
- Back up the iPhone and leave it intact until you have checked the tablet.
- Charge both devices or connect them to power. Make sure the Samsung tablet has enough free storage for anything you want stored locally.
- Update Smart Switch and the tablet’s system software if updates are available.
- If iCloud Photos uses Optimize iPhone Storage, some full-resolution originals may be in iCloud rather than on the iPhone. Check that the originals are available before relying on a local cable copy.
- Have access to the Apple Account and its two-factor authentication method if using iCloud import.
Option 1: Import from iCloud
This is useful when the content you want is already stored in iCloud. On the Galaxy tablet:
- Open Settings and search for Smart Switch, or open Smart Switch from the Samsung folder if available.
- Tap Receive on this phone, then choose iPhone/iPad.
- Choose Get data from iCloud.
- Sign in with your Apple Account. Approve the sign-in on the iPhone if prompted and enter the verification code.
- Select the categories you want, tap Next, and wait for the import to finish.
- Review the results and tap Done.
Samsung’s documented labels include “Receive on this phone,” “iPhone/iPad,” and “Get data from iCloud,” but the path and wording can differ by tablet, region, One UI version, and Smart Switch version. Samsung’s Smart Switch instructions provide its current supported steps.
Option 2: Transfer with a cable
A wired transfer is often preferable for a large local photo or video collection because it avoids relying entirely on internet availability. You may need a compatible Lightning or USB-C cable and, if the connectors do not match, an appropriate adapter. Keep both devices powered, connect them, unlock the iPhone, and approve any trust or access prompt. Follow the Smart Switch prompts on the tablet, select the content, and do not disconnect either device while the transfer is running.
A cable cannot magically copy originals that are only in iCloud. If iPhone storage optimization is enabled, allow originals to download or use an iCloud-based route for those items. Check the tablet’s free space before asking it to store a large library offline.

Option 3: Use a computer or external storage
If Smart Switch stalls or the library is especially large, a computer can act as an intermediary: copy or export the iPhone files to a Mac or Windows PC, connect the tablet, then copy them into folders such as Pictures, Movies, or Documents. Open them in Samsung Gallery, My Files, or the appropriate app. A compatible USB drive or other external storage is another option; microSD support varies by tablet model. Samsung describes transfer and setup options in its Galaxy tablet guidance.
What should appear—and what may not
After a successful transfer, imported photos and videos should be available in Gallery or device storage; documents should be accessible in My Files or the selected destination; and contacts and calendar entries should appear in the account or app they were imported into. The precise destination can vary, so check the selected account as well as the app’s local view.

Smart Switch does not clone an iPhone. It does not install the iOS versions of apps on Android; it may suggest Android equivalents instead. Paid apps, in-app purchases, Apple Health and Apple Watch data, FaceTime history, iCloud Keychain passwords, some third-party app data, locked Apple Notes, and some account-synced content may not transfer. DRM-protected music or video can also be excluded. Google’s Android transfer guidance documents additional transfer limitations; those details are not identical across every Samsung model or migration method.
Set up ongoing sync with Google
Google is a practical default if you want an iPhone and Samsung tablet to share contacts, calendars, photos, files, and notes without depending on Apple-only services. Install the relevant Google apps on both devices and sign in to the same account.
On the iPhone
- Install and sign in to the Google apps you plan to use, such as Google Photos, Drive, Gmail, Calendar, Keep, or Chrome.
- To let Apple’s built-in Contacts, Mail, or Calendar apps use Google, open Settings and go to the relevant app’s account settings. Depending on the iOS version, this may appear under Contacts, Mail, or Calendar, then Accounts or Add Account.
- Choose Google, sign in, and enable the categories you want to sync.
- Set Google as the default account for new contacts or calendar items if you want new entries to go to the shared account. Changing the default does not automatically move items already stored in iCloud or another account.
On the Samsung tablet
- Open Settings.
- Tap Accounts and backup, then Manage accounts.
- Tap Add account, choose Google, and sign in to the same account.
- Ensure account sync is enabled, then use Google Contacts, Calendar, Photos, Drive, and Gmail as needed.
One UI labels can vary. Google Contacts generally syncs to Android after you add the account; see Google’s Android contact-sync instructions if entries do not appear.

Photos: choose one library, not two competing ones
Google Photos
Google Photos is usually the simplest option when both devices need access to a shared photo library. Install it on the iPhone and tablet, sign into the same Google Account, and configure backup on each device as desired. Understand the distinction:
- Backup uploads eligible photos and videos from a device to the cloud.
- Library access lets you view backed-up items in Google Photos on another device.
- Local storage means an original is actually downloaded to the tablet and available offline or in another app such as Samsung Gallery.
A picture visible in Google Photos is not necessarily a local Gallery file. If you need offline access or want it in Samsung Gallery, download the original to the tablet. Conversely, a storage-saving feature that removes local copies can leave cloud copies accessible in Google Photos without those files occupying device storage. Be deliberate before deleting: confirm whether you are removing only a device copy or deleting the cloud item from the library.
OneDrive, Dropbox, and iCloud access
OneDrive is a natural choice for Microsoft 365 and Windows users, especially for documents and camera-roll backup. However, the Samsung Gallery integration has changed: Microsoft says new users can no longer link Samsung Gallery to OneDrive from May 1, 2026. Existing linked users are directed to use OneDrive camera-roll backup for continued photo backup after September 30, 2026. Check Microsoft’s current integration and privacy guidance; do not assume older Gallery-link instructions still apply.
Dropbox works as a cross-platform place for shared folders and files; use its apps on both devices. iCloud remains useful if the iPhone is your main device and you only need occasional access from the tablet. Apple lists supported iCloud web access to services such as Mail, Contacts, Calendars, and Reminders at iCloud.com. Browser access is not a native Samsung Gallery or system-wide sync.
Contacts and calendars: choose a source of truth
Contacts and calendar items can be split across iCloud, Google, Microsoft Exchange, a SIM, local iPhone storage, and work or school accounts. A transfer can look incomplete simply because it copied one account while the missing entries belong to another. - On the iPhone, identify which accounts contain your contacts and calendars. Check account settings and confirm that the items you expect are visible under each account.
- Choose one ongoing home for shared entries: Google for a Google/Android-oriented setup, Outlook or Exchange for a Microsoft/work setup, or iCloud if the Samsung tablet only needs occasional web access.
- Move or export existing entries to that account if needed. Adding an account or changing the default does not necessarily relocate older entries.
- Add the same account to the Samsung tablet and enable its contact and calendar sync.
- Test both directions: create a contact on the iPhone and an event on the tablet, then check that each appears on the other device.
Do not keep creating new contacts in iCloud on the iPhone while expecting them to appear automatically in a Google account on the tablet. Both devices need to use the same source account for dependable ongoing sync.
Messages: iMessage is not a Samsung service
iMessage does not become a native Samsung messaging service, and copying some message history does not make future iMessages sync to the tablet. SMS/MMS, iMessage, and messages in apps such as WhatsApp are different systems, each with separate transfer and backup rules.
If you are moving your phone number from an iPhone to an Android phone, turn off iMessage before or during the move so messages from Apple users can route as text messages. If the iPhone is unavailable, Apple provides a web-based deregistration process. Google’s Android transfer guide also advises disabling iMessage and points users toward Google Messages for Android texting. A Samsung tablet may not have the same mobile messaging capabilities as a phone; availability depends on its model, connectivity, carrier, and companion-device setup.
For ongoing conversations across iPhone and Android, use a cross-platform messaging app such as WhatsApp, Signal, Telegram, or Messenger, and follow that app’s own migration and backup instructions. Do not assume Smart Switch moves every app’s chat history.

- Shared cloud folder: Put the item in Google Drive, OneDrive, or Dropbox and open that account on the tablet. This is convenient for files needed in multiple locations.
- Computer intermediary: Copy files from the iPhone to a Mac or PC, then to the tablet. This is useful for batches or when wireless transfer is unreliable.
- Cable or external storage: Compatible cables, adapters, hubs, and USB storage can help with local copying. Exact support depends on the devices and accessories.
- Small files: Email or a cross-platform messaging app can be enough for a single document or image.
AirDrop is intended for Apple-device sharing, not as a general iPhone-to-Samsung transfer method. Apple documents ways to transfer files to computers, external storage, and file servers in its iPhone file-transfer guide. Be cautious with third-party “phone transfer” utilities, especially those requesting Apple Account credentials or broad access to passwords and private data.

What will not sync cleanly
- Apple Health and Apple Watch: Smart Switch is not a complete migration route for Apple Health history or Apple Watch data.
- FaceTime: FaceTime call history is not a Samsung-native service. Apple offers some cross-platform joining options, but that is not the same as syncing FaceTime history or installing a native Samsung FaceTime app.
- Apple Notes: Notes may be among Smart Switch’s possible transfer categories, but locked notes and ongoing sync into Samsung Notes are not guaranteed. Move active notes to Keep, OneNote, or another cross-platform service if they must stay current on both devices.
- Passwords: iCloud Keychain does not fully migrate into Samsung Password Manager. Use official export/import or account-based options where available, or adopt a reputable cross-platform password manager. Treat password exports as highly sensitive, keep them out of shared folders, and delete temporary export files securely.
- Apps and purchases: Android apps must be installed separately; paid iOS apps and in-app purchases generally do not transfer as Android licenses.
- Protected media and app data: DRM-protected purchases and some third-party app data may be unavailable to copy.
Troubleshooting common problems
Smart Switch cannot see the iPhone or transfer stalls
- Update Smart Switch and the tablet software, then restart both devices.
- Charge both devices and temporarily remove battery-saving restrictions that could interrupt the transfer.
- Unlock the iPhone and accept its trust/access prompt.
- If wireless or iCloud transfer stalls, try a compatible cable; if cable transfer fails, try the iCloud route.
- Transfer fewer categories at a time and check the tablet’s free storage.
iCloud sign-in fails
Confirm the Apple Account credentials and complete two-factor authentication on a trusted device or number. If access is denied or data is missing, verify that the content is actually present in iCloud through Apple’s supported services. A managed school or work iPhone may restrict account access or data export.
Photos are missing or lower-resolution
Check whether the originals were stored only in iCloud because Optimize iPhone Storage was enabled. Allow downloads to finish or use an iCloud-based import route. Also check whether you are looking in Google Photos rather than Samsung Gallery: cloud visibility does not prove that a local original exists on the tablet.
Contacts or calendar entries are incomplete
Check all source accounts on the iPhone, not just iCloud. Make sure the tablet has the same intended Google, Microsoft, or Exchange account and that sync is enabled. Importing one account will not necessarily include entries in another; Apple’s account troubleshooting steps can help locate them.

Messages from iPhone users do not arrive after switching
Deregister iMessage for the moved number and confirm the sender is using SMS/RCS or a cross-platform messaging app. Existing message history and future delivery are separate problems.
Duplicates appear or changes only go one way
Duplicates commonly arise when the same contacts or photos are imported and also synced from another account. Before importing again, identify which account already owns the items. For one-way sync, check that the same account is enabled on both devices and that new entries are being saved to it rather than to iCloud, local storage, or a different work account.
The tablet runs out of storage
Remove only verified local copies you no longer need, or keep the library in a cloud app and download selected items for offline use. Check the cloud copy before deleting anything; deleting from a synced library may remove the item from the cloud and other devices too.

Recommended setup by situation
- The iPhone remains your main device: Keep using iCloud on the iPhone. Use Google Photos or a shared Drive/OneDrive folder for items the tablet needs, and use iCloud.com when occasional access to supported Apple data is enough.
- You want the Galaxy tablet to share everyday data with the iPhone: Put contacts and calendars in Google or Microsoft, use Google Photos or another chosen photo service, and keep files in a shared cloud drive.
- Your household uses Windows, Outlook, or Microsoft 365: Consider Outlook/Exchange for contacts and calendars and OneDrive for files. For photos, use OneDrive camera-roll backup or another service; account for the 2026 change to new Samsung Gallery links.
- You are setting up the tablet and want a large one-time move: Use Smart Switch, preferably a cable when practical, then verify the important data before changing or erasing anything on the iPhone.
- You only send a file now and then: A shared cloud folder, computer, or direct compatible cable is simpler than migrating your whole digital life.
Final verification checklist
- Back up the iPhone and keep it available until verification is complete.
- Charge both devices, check tablet storage, and confirm whether photo originals are local or in iCloud.
- Use Smart Switch for the one-time categories you want to copy.
- Add the same Google or Microsoft accounts on both devices for the data that must keep syncing.
- Create a test contact and calendar event, upload or take a test photo, and open a test file from each device.
- Check messages separately; deregister iMessage if you are moving your phone number to Android.
- Do not erase the iPhone until you have inspected photos, contacts, calendar entries, messages, notes, and essential files on the tablet or in their new shared services.
