No—the Samsung Galaxy S22 is water-resistant, not waterproof. Its IP68 rating is based on testing in up to 1.5 meters of fresh water for up to 30 minutes under controlled conditions. That is not a guarantee for every accident, and Samsung advises against using the S22 in pools or at the beach.
What IP68 means on the Galaxy S22
The Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra are IP68-rated for dust and water resistance. The “6” indicates dust-tight protection under the applicable test. The “8” indicates protection against immersion under specified conditions; Samsung’s stated S22-series conditions are fresh water, up to 1.5 meters deep, for up to 30 minutes. Samsung’s launch specifications describe that rating, while its water-resistance guidance explains the limits.
Those figures describe controlled testing, not a recommended way to use the phone or a promise that it will survive a 30-minute dunk. Real exposure can involve movement, water pressure, temperature changes, contaminants, or a weakened seal. The rating does not mean the phone is safe at any depth, underwater indefinitely, or guaranteed to work normally while wet.
Can you use the Galaxy S22 around water?

| Shower, bath, or hot tub | Avoid. Water pressure, heat, steam, soap, and prolonged exposure are not covered by the rating. |
| Soap, shampoo, sunscreen, perfume, sanitizer, or chemicals | Avoid contact. These liquids are not the fresh water used for the rating and may harm the device or its seals. |
| Hose, water jet, or forceful tap | Avoid high-pressure water, which can force liquid past seals. |
Samsung specifically says beach and pool use are not advised. A phone might survive an exposure outside these recommendations, but that does not make it safe or manufacturer-approved. For deliberate use near or under water, use a compatible waterproof pouch or case with a clearly stated submersion rating; the accessory is a separate barrier and does not make the bare phone more waterproof.

What to do if your Galaxy S22 gets wet
If it was fresh water or rain
- Take it out of the water promptly and disconnect any cable.
- Wipe the exterior with a clean, soft, dry cloth.
- Hold it with the speaker facing down and gently shake it to help remove trapped water.
- Leave it to dry in a well-ventilated place. Do not connect a charger until the USB-C port is completely dry.
- Check the speaker and microphone after it has dried. They can sound muffled while wet.
If it was saltwater, pool water, soap, or another contaminating liquid
- Remove the phone from the liquid immediately. Do not charge it.
- Gently rinse it with still, clean fresh water to remove residue; do not use a forceful stream.
- Wipe it with a soft, clean cloth and let the exterior, openings, and USB-C port dry thoroughly.
- If it will not charge after drying, behaves abnormally, overheats, or shows signs of corrosion, contact Samsung or an authorized service center.
Samsung advises rinsing devices exposed to liquids other than fresh water and drying them thoroughly. See its Galaxy S22-series water-resistance guidance and IP68 maintenance document.
Do not use a hair dryer, heat gun, oven, or compressed air; insert anything into the USB-C port; or deliberately submerge the phone to test its seal. Rice is not a repair method. If a moisture warning appears, it may simply mean the port needs to dry: do not bypass the warning by charging with a cable while the port is wet. Samsung notes that the phone may block charging when it detects moisture.

Water resistance can weaken with age or damage
An IP rating describes a device in its tested condition; it does not certify that a particular used phone still has that protection. Samsung warns that water resistance can weaken through wear and tear and may be affected by an impact. Cracked glass, a bent frame, damage around the USB-C port or SIM tray, a hard drop, or an improperly seated SIM tray can all make a seal less dependable.

The S22 launched in 2022, so many units are now several years old. That alone does not prove a phone has lost its resistance, but age and past wear matter. A case that protects against drops does not restore an internal seal. After a screen, back-glass, or other repair, do not assume the original water resistance has been restored unless the repair provider verifies it. If the phone has been dropped or opened, treat it as more vulnerable and seek authorized inspection if you suspect damage.

Does Samsung’s warranty cover water damage?
IP68 is not a promise of warranty coverage. Samsung’s standard US mobile warranty excludes certain damage caused by liquid, moisture, dampness, weather, sand, dust, or dirt, particularly when exposure is inconsistent with the device’s specifications and instructions. The outcome depends on the country, model, warranty terms, device condition, and circumstances; check the terms for your region rather than assuming all liquid damage is covered or automatically denied. If the phone may have water inside, has charging problems, or has visible damage, contact Samsung or an authorized service center. Ask about inspection and repair costs before proceeding, especially for an older phone. Samsung says its authorized network uses certified technicians and genuine parts; repair service and water-resistance testing do not amount to a blanket guarantee that every repaired device has its original factory seal.

Bottom line for S22 owners
Think of the Galaxy S22’s IP68 rating as a safeguard for limited, accidental exposure to fresh water—not permission to swim, shower, or take it to the beach. Brief rain or a splash is less concerning when the phone is undamaged, but dry it promptly, keep it unplugged until the charging port is dry, and be especially cautious with an older, cracked, dropped, or repaired device.
