Yes—the ASUS TUF Gaming BE9400 (TUF-BE9400) is a standalone tri-band Wi-Fi 7 router with 2.5GbE RJ-45 Ethernet. It has four 2.5GbE network ports in total: one 2.5GbE WAN port and three 2.5GbE LAN ports. It is a strong match for internet plans up to 2.5Gbps, multi-gigabit home networks and Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 devices, but it cannot provide a full 5Gbps or 8Gbps wired internet connection because its WAN port is limited to 2.5GbE.
What the ASUS TUF Gaming BE9400 actually is
The TUF Gaming BE9400 is a standalone router, not a two-unit mesh kit. It supports the 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz bands and uses the Wi-Fi 7 standard, also known as IEEE 802.11be. ASUS positions it as a gaming-focused alternative to its more expensive ROG models, with AiMesh expansion, traffic-priority controls, Open NAT and Smart Home Master features.
The router can work with older Wi-Fi 5, Wi-Fi 6 and Wi-Fi 6E clients, but those devices will not automatically receive every Wi-Fi 7 benefit. The client adapter, driver, channel support and local radio conditions all affect the connection you actually get.
How many 2.5GbE RJ-45 ports does it have?
The BE9400 has four 2.5GbE RJ-45 ports—not four LAN ports plus a separate WAN port:

RJ-45 describes the familiar modular Ethernet connector. 2.5GbE describes the supported Ethernet link speed—up to 2.5 gigabits per second under suitable conditions. It does not mean the router has 10GbE connectivity.
Some third-party descriptions claim five or six 2.5Gbps Ethernet ports. Those claims conflict with ASUS’s product documentation. The official manual labels the ports “2.5G LAN 1–3” and “2.5G WAN,” confirming four total 2.5GbE Ethernet ports.

The BE9400 name and 9,400Mbps figure represent an aggregate theoretical class rating. They do not mean that one laptop or phone will download at 9.4Gbps. The advertised total combines the maximum rates of separate radios and assumes compatible devices and favorable conditions.

ASUS highlights several Wi-Fi 7 capabilities, including:
- 320MHz channels on the 6GHz band for compatible clients and suitable spectrum conditions.
- 4096-QAM, or 4K-QAM, which can increase modulation efficiency when signal quality and client support are adequate.
- Multi-Link Operation (MLO), which can allow supported devices to use multiple links or bands.
- A dedicated 6GHz radio, making this a tri-band router rather than a dual-band model.
To benefit fully, a client must support the relevant Wi-Fi 7 features. A Wi-Fi 6E device can use the 6GHz band, but it does not automatically gain 320MHz Wi-Fi 7 operation, 4096-QAM or every form of MLO. Distance, walls, interference, antenna configuration and channel availability can reduce throughput substantially.
What the 2.5GbE limit means for internet and local networking
The 2.5GbE WAN port makes the router a natural fit for broadband plans up to 2.5Gbps. A faster 5Gbps or 8Gbps fiber service cannot reach its full wired internet rate through this router’s WAN connection.
The limitation is less restrictive on the local network. Three 2.5GbE LAN ports can connect a multi-gig PC, NAS, console or access point. If you have more than three wired multi-gig devices, connect a 2.5GbE switch to one LAN port. An unmanaged switch with at least five 2.5GbE ports is usually the simplest expansion route; a model with a faster uplink may be useful for future upgrades.

Existing Cat 5e cable may support 2.5GbE over typical residential distances, but the result depends on cable quality, terminations, adapters, interference and the complete link. Every device in the path must also support 2.5GbE to negotiate that speed.
Gaming features: useful controls, not a latency guarantee
ASUS includes a dedicated gaming port, traffic prioritization, Mobile Game Mode in the ASUS Router app, QoS controls and Open NAT. The gaming port is not a faster Ethernet standard; it is a designated port that works with ASUS prioritization features.
Open NAT can simplify certain multiplayer configurations, while QoS can help prioritize selected traffic when a connection is congested. These features cannot eliminate latency caused by the ISP, the game server, routing distance, congestion or a poor wireless signal. For the most consistent gaming connection, connect a gaming PC or console by Ethernet. Independent testing by RTINGS found the wireless latency suitable for ordinary uses and casual gaming, but not ideal for competitive gaming over Wi-Fi.
Coverage, 6GHz range and AiMesh
ASUS advertises coverage of up to approximately 2,500 square feet, but that is a marketing estimate rather than a guarantee. Building materials, floor plan, router placement, interference and client hardware can change the usable area considerably. Independent coverage testing has described the standalone range as strong for medium-to-large homes, while also noting the router’s bulky design.

The 6GHz band can provide high capacity and less congestion nearby, but it generally loses strength through walls faster than 2.4GHz and 5GHz. Place the router centrally and do not assume that the fastest 6GHz mode will cover every room in a large house.
The BE9400 supports ASUS AiMesh, allowing compatible ASUS routers or access points to form one managed network. A wireless mesh satellite uses some wireless capacity for backhaul. For demanding gaming, streaming and file transfers, a wired Ethernet backhaul is preferable. ASUS provides AiMesh information for the BE9400.
USB storage: convenient, but not a NAS replacement
The single USB 3.2 Gen 1 port—also documented as USB 3.0—supports USB storage and compatible router services. It can be useful for basic file sharing or tethering, but it should not be treated as a high-performance NAS interface.

That is one reviewer’s result under a particular test setup, not an ASUS specification, but it illustrates why serious storage workloads are better served by a dedicated NAS.

Setup guide
- Connect the modem, ONT or ISP gateway to the router’s 2.5G WAN port.
- For initial configuration, connect a computer to a 2.5G LAN port.
- Power on the modem or ONT and the BE9400.
- Open
http://www.asusrouter.com. If the page does not open automatically, enter the address manually. - Let Quick Internet Setup detect the connection type, or choose manual setup.
- Enter ISP information if required, including PPPoE credentials.
- Set a unique Wi-Fi network name and password.
- Set a separate router-administration password.
- Update the router firmware before completing the installation.
ASUS documents Quick Internet Setup support for Dynamic IP, PPPoE, PPTP and L2TP detection. Depending on the ISP, you may also need VLAN tagging or MAC registration information.
If setup fails
- Check that the incoming cable is connected to WAN, not a LAN port.
- Restart the modem or ONT and router.
- Confirm whether the ISP requires PPPoE credentials, VLAN settings or MAC registration.
- Try manual setup, another Ethernet cable or the web interface instead of the app.
- Update Ethernet and Wi-Fi adapter drivers if a client cannot connect.
- Factory-reset only after recording the ISP settings; resetting erases the existing configuration.
ASUS’s manual also warns that some adapters can have compatibility issues with newer 802.11ax/be access points, making current drivers particularly important.
Who should buy the BE9400?
Good fit
- Households with broadband service between roughly 1Gbps and 2.5Gbps.
- Users who need several 2.5GbE wired connections.
- Buyers with Wi-Fi 6E or Wi-Fi 7 devices that want a 6GHz band.
- Gamers who want Ethernet prioritization, QoS, Open NAT and Mobile Game Mode.
- Users who want to expand an ASUS network with AiMesh.
- People who prefer extensive router controls and do not want normal use to require an ASUS account, as reported by Dong Knows Tech.
Poor fit
- Subscribers to internet plans faster than 2.5Gbps who want the full service speed through the router.
- Users who specifically need 10GbE WAN or LAN.
- Buyers seeking a compact router with internal antennas and a minimalist appearance.
- Anyone expecting USB storage performance comparable to a dedicated NAS.
- Competitive gamers expecting Wi-Fi features to guarantee the lowest possible ping.
- People who want a completely automated, plug-and-play mesh system rather than a configurable standalone router.

Price and included hardware
ASUS’s US page showed a price of $279.99 during the August 2026 research period. Treat that as a time- and region-specific price signal; promotions, tax, stock and local pricing can change.
The package includes the router, an RJ-45 network cable, a power adapter, a Quick Start Guide and a warranty card.
Bottom line
The ASUS TUF Gaming BE9400 is a genuine standalone tri-band Wi-Fi 7 router with four total 2.5GbE RJ-45 ports: one WAN and three LAN. It is well matched with up-to-2.5Gbps broadband, Wi-Fi 6E/Wi-Fi 7 clients and local multi-gigabit networking. Its main weaknesses are the lack of 10GbE, the limited USB storage performance reported in independent testing, its bulky design and the fact that gaming controls cannot overcome normal internet latency. For a 5Gbps-or-faster internet plan, a router with a faster WAN port is the better choice.
