AMD Software: Adrenalin Edition 23.12.1 is a genuine legacy Radeon driver released on December 5, 2023—not AMD’s current driver in 2026. It remains relevant for compatible systems that need this exact release for rollback, software reproduction, OpenGL support, or a known hardware configuration. Download it through AMD’s official 23.12.1 release-notes page, rather than relying on a copied executable URL.
Before installing, check your GPU, Windows version, laptop or desktop status, and the release’s known issues. In particular, 23.12.1 documents AV1 recording desynchronization, intermittent gray screens on some monitors, and temporarily disabled Factory Reset.

These three identifiers refer to the same release family. “23.12.1” is the public Adrenalin release label, “23.30.13.01” is AMD’s internal package version, and “31.0.23013.1023” is the Windows driver version that may appear in Device Manager.
How to download 23.12.1 safely
Start with AMD’s archived release-notes page. AMD lists separate packages for ordinary supported Radeon systems and systems combining RDNA graphics with Polaris or Vega graphics. Use the package that matches the hardware listed on the page.
#1 Best Overall
- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
- Dual BIOS switch lets you toggle between Quiet and Performance BIOS profiles
- Dual ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as sleeve bearing designs
The original installer may still be listed while direct retrieval of the executable redirects to AMD’s “Download Not Complete” page. AMD says this can happen when a download begins outside AMD.com, when a link is copied or saved directly, when referrer information is blocked, or when a download manager is involved. This redirect does not by itself prove that the driver is fake or unavailable.
- Open the release page directly in a normal browser.
- Use AMD’s product selector if the old download button fails.
- Click the download normally instead of using a copied executable URL or “Save As.”
- Avoid download managers that remove referrer information.
- Do not make an unofficial mirror your default source.
AMD’s explanation of this behavior is available in its Download Not Complete guidance. AMD may eventually remove or change archived binaries, so availability should not be treated as permanent.
What changed in 23.12.1?
New game support
The release added launch support for Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora and THE FINALS. In release notes, “support” can mean compatibility work, profiles, or launch optimization; it is not a guarantee of a universal frame-rate increase.

Redesigned Home and Gaming tabs
AMD redesigned the Home and Gaming sections. The Home tab could activate HYPR-RX globally or per game, show game key art, and provide explanatory content for features inside HYPR-RX profiles. Performance-metrics controls also gained more customization, including background and text colors, default metrics, and whether the overlay appears only while a game is running.
Do not assume that current AMD Software screenshots show the same menus. AMD’s newer interface can differ substantially from the 23.12.1 version.
HYPR-RX Eco
HYPR-RX Eco was introduced as a one-click power-saving profile for supported Radeon 7000-series and RDNA 3 systems. It is a design goal, not a guarantee of lower power consumption or longer battery life on every configuration.
OpenGL interoperability
23.12.1 expanded support for Frame Rate Target Control, Radeon Super Resolution, Overlay, and Record and Stream features in OpenGL games. This is most useful for older or OpenGL-based titles where users want AMD’s scaling, overlay, recording, or streaming functions.

- Axial-tech fans now feature a smaller fan hub that facilitates longer blades and a barrier ring that increases downward air pressure
- Phase-change GPU thermal pad helps ensure optimal heat transfer, lowering GPU temperatures for enhanced performance and reliability
- 2.5-slot design allows for greater build compatibility while maintaining cooling performance
- Dual-ball fan bearings last up to twice as long as standard conventional sleeve bearings designs
- 0dB technology lets you enjoy light gaming in relative silence
Hardware-Accelerated GPU Scheduling
AMD listed HAGS support for the Radeon RX 7900, RX 7800, and RX 7700 families on Windows 11 version 22H2 or newer. It should not be generalized to every Radeon GPU or Windows installation.
Vulkan and creator applications
The release added VK_KHR_maintenance5, VK_EXT_frame_boundary, and VK_EXT_nested_command_buffer. These extensions mainly matter to game engines, developers, emulators, and applications that explicitly use them; they do not automatically increase performance in every Vulkan game.
AMD also listed DirectML improvements and optimizations for Topaz AI, DaVinci Resolve, and Adobe Lightroom on selected Radeon RX 600M, 700M, 6000, and 7000 graphics. These are AMD’s application-specific claims, not a guarantee that every workload becomes faster.
The release notes also referenced a separate AFMF preview driver. Do not assume that the standard 23.12.1 package includes every change from that preview.
Fixed issues
AMD’s documented fixes included:
- High idle power on certain RX 7000 dual-monitor configurations using mixed resolutions and high refresh rates.
- Micro-stuttering in Chromium-based browsers when an RX 7000 card was paired with a secondary display connected to a Ryzen 7000 processor.
- Missing stars in Crysis Remastered.
- Invisible textures in Final Fantasy X HD Remaster on RX 7000 GPUs.
- Racetrack corruption in EA Sports WRC.
- Intermittent Overwatch 2 stutter on some AMD products, including the RX 6900 XT.
The multi-monitor power fix is configuration-specific. If you are testing it, record each monitor’s resolution and refresh rate, whether displays connect directly to the GPU, and whether the issue remains after installation. AMD did not claim a universal fix for multi-monitor idle power.
Known issues and risks
- AV1 recordings may intermittently develop audio/video desynchronization.
- Some monitors may show an intermittent gray screen after upgrading; AMD gave the Nixeus NX-EDG274K as an example.
- Some light DirectML workloads may experience lower performance.
- The Graphics API metric may show
N/Ain some UWP applications. - War Thunder may show intermittent ground-texture flickering with 4x SAAA on some AMD products, including the RX 7900 XTX.
A known issue does not mean every system will reproduce it, and later drivers may fix or change these behaviors. Users who depend on AV1 should make a short test recording and check synchronization before capturing a long session.

Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteIntegrated graphics, laptops, and all-in-ones
AMD also lists compatible Ryzen, Ryzen PRO, Athlon, and Athlon PRO processors with Radeon graphics. However, AMD recommends laptop and all-in-one owners use the manufacturer’s driver when system-specific features matter. OEM packages may be validated for display switching, MUX behavior, brightness and hotkeys, USB-C displays, hybrid graphics, sleep/wake, fan control, and power profiles.
The reference package has limited support for vendor-specific notebook features. It is not intended for Radeon hardware running under Apple Boot Camp, and it does not include support for handheld gaming devices. Handheld owners should use the device manufacturer’s driver. Administrator rights are required.
Installing 23.12.1
- Download the package from AMD’s official release page or product selector.
- Save it locally and close games and GPU-dependent applications.
- Temporarily consider disabling software that may interfere with setup, such as antivirus, firewall, remote-access, or streaming tools.
- Run the installer as an administrator.
- Allow the package to unpack, preferably to its default extraction location.
- Let the installer check system and driver compatibility.
- Accept the license terms if you agree.
- Use the default installation path for the least complicated setup.
- Restart when prompted.
- Test your main game, monitor arrangement, recording workflow, and sleep/wake behavior.
AMD’s general installation documentation is newer than 23.12.1, so its screenshots and options are not an exact menu map for this release.
Important: Factory Reset was disabled
The 23.12.1 release notes state that Factory Reset was temporarily disabled because of isolated installation issues during PC upgrades. AMD recommended AMD Cleanup Utility as a temporary alternative, particularly for systems that had previously used an AMD Software Insider Preview driver.
Do not instruct a 23.12.1 user to select Factory Reset. If that option appears unexpectedly, confirm that the package is really 23.12.1 and not a newer AMD installer.
For a normal update, install over the existing driver. Use Windows Installed Apps first when removing AMD Software. Use AMD Cleanup Utility only when a standard uninstall does not resolve a conflict or when you deliberately need a clean reinstall. During cleanup, Windows may temporarily use Microsoft Basic Display Adapter.

Unsupported hardware
Confirm the exact GPU model, whether the system is a laptop, all-in-one, or handheld, whether the operating system is 64-bit, whether integrated and discrete graphics are both present, and whether you selected the correct RDNA/Polaris/Vega combination package.
Windows Update replaced the driver
Recheck the driver after reboot and after major Windows updates. Windows Update can replace an older manually installed package with a later Windows-delivered driver.
Gray screen, blank screen, or flicker
- Allow the installation and reboot process to finish.
- If the monitor loses signal, try another input or cable.
- Use Windows Recovery or Safe Mode if Windows cannot reach the desktop.
- Remove the AMD package.
- Install the laptop or all-in-one OEM driver, or return to the previously working Radeon driver.
- Use AMD Cleanup Utility only if ordinary removal fails.
The gray-screen warning is a documented issue affecting some monitors, not a claim that every display will fail.
Settings changed after upgrading
Driver upgrades can alter graphics profiles and performance-metrics settings. Before updating, record per-game overrides, tuning settings, fan curves, undervolt values, frame-rate targets, and recording or streaming settings. If necessary, use the reset option in the Graphics or Performance Metrics settings.

Should you install 23.12.1?
23.12.1 may be sensible if you need to reproduce a 2023 software environment, roll back from a newer driver with a confirmed regression, support a specific application or game, or use a compatible desktop Radeon configuration that benefits from its documented fixes or OpenGL feature support.
It is usually not the best default for someone who simply wants the newest driver, a recently released Radeon card, a handheld gaming PC, a laptop dependent on OEM features, or reliable AV1 recording. A stable system with no specific reason to revert should not be downgraded merely because an archived driver is available.
There is no universal “best” Radeon driver. The right choice depends on GPU generation, Windows build, game or application, monitor arrangement, recording workflow, and whether you value a specific older behavior over newer compatibility and fixes. Check AMD’s current product-specific driver page before choosing 23.12.1 for a new installation.

How to evaluate community reports
AMD’s release notes are the authoritative source for the package’s stated features, compatibility, fixes, and known issues. Independent tests can provide benchmark, frame-time, power, and application measurements. User reports can reveal patterns, but they are affected by different hardware, settings, Windows builds, and installation histories.
When discussing results, include the Radeon model, Windows version and build, previous and new driver, installation method, monitor resolutions and refresh rates, and the affected game or application. Community reports should be treated as experiences—not controlled proof of universal performance or stability.
AMD also announced that driver releases would stop supporting AMD Link beginning in January 2024. That historical note should not be interpreted as ongoing AMD Link support in 2026.
