On a work- or school-managed Windows 11 PC, open Settings > Accounts > Access work or school, select the relevant organization connection, and choose Export your management log files under Related settings. Windows saves the export to C:UsersPublicPublic DocumentsMDMDiagnostics. Send both files created for the log to your IT support team.
In this Windows workflow, “management logs” generally means MDM or device-management diagnostics used for Intune enrollment, policy, synchronization, and work-account troubleshooting—not every log in Event Viewer.
What Windows 11 management logs are used for
Management logs record diagnostic information related to an enrolled or managed device. IT administrators may use them to investigate:
- Work or school account and enrollment failures
- Microsoft Intune or other MDM policy-processing errors
- Device check-in and synchronization problems
- Configuration-profile failures
- Compliance and device-management issues
The Settings export is a focused management-diagnostics package. Do not assume it contains every Intune Management Extension log, Windows event log, registry setting, or complete system report. See Microsoft’s management-log instructions for the documented workflow.

Before you begin
- The device should have a relevant work or school connection under Access work or school.
- The PC generally needs to be enrolled or connected to an organization’s MDM service.
- Have your support ticket number, error message, and the approximate time of the failure available.
- Use your organization’s approved method for transferring diagnostic files.
A personal, unmanaged PC may not show the export command. Labels can also vary slightly by Windows build, management configuration, or documentation revision.
Export management logs from Windows 11 Settings
- Press Windows + I to open Settings.
- Select Accounts.
- Select Access work or school.
- Find the work or school connection related to the problem.
- Select the connection to reveal its available options.
- Under Related settings, select Export your management log files.
- Wait for Windows to generate the files.
- Open File Explorer and browse to:
C:UsersPublicPublic DocumentsMDMDiagnostics - If several exports are present, sort the folder by Date modified and identify the newest files.
Which files should you send?
Microsoft states that Windows creates two files for each log: the diagnostic log and a companion document designed to make the data easier to review in applications such as Excel. Send both files. Do not send only the file that appears easiest to open, and do not rename or edit the originals unless IT asks you to.
Share the logs safely
- Send the files only to your organization’s help desk or designated support person.
- Use an approved secure upload or file-transfer system if your organization provides one.
- Do not post the files or screenshots publicly.
- Be aware that logs may contain device names, usernames, tenant identifiers, email addresses, serial numbers, or internal URLs.
- If support requests a ZIP file, preserve the original files first and compress copies.
Along with the files, provide the device name, ticket number, exact error text, approximate failure time, reproduction steps, and whether the device was connected to a VPN or restricted network.

If “Export your management log files” is missing
Work through these checks:
- Confirm that the correct work or school account appears under Access work or school.
- Select or expand the actual connection entry rather than looking only at the page heading.
- Restart Settings and check again. If the connection was recently added, restart Windows too.
- Ask IT to confirm whether the device is registered, joined, and fully enrolled in Intune or another MDM service.
- If the device is personal and unmanaged, ask IT which diagnostic method applies.
- Use Event Viewer for a local MDM-log export, or ask an Intune administrator to collect diagnostics remotely.
A missing command can indicate that no relevant managed connection exists, enrollment is incomplete, the enrollment is malfunctioning, or the Windows interface differs on that build. Do not delete the diagnostics folder or change its permissions without IT’s direction.
Export MDM logs with Event Viewer
Event Viewer is a more technical fallback. The MDM provider is located at:
Event Viewer
> Applications and Services Logs
> Microsoft
> Windows
> DeviceManagement-Enterprise-Diagnostics-ProviderExport the Admin channel
- Search for Event Viewer from Start and open it.
- Expand Applications and Services Logs > Microsoft > Windows.
- Open DeviceManagement-Enterprise-Diagnostics-Provider.
- Right-click Admin and select Save All Events As.
- Choose a destination and filename.
- If Windows asks about display information for languages, choose English when appropriate, then select OK.
The Admin channel is normally available by default. Microsoft documents this MDM location and export process in its MDM log collection guidance.

Export the Debug channel only when requested
Debug logging can generate substantially more data, so enable it only when IT asks:

- In Event Viewer, select View > Show Analytic and Debug Logs.
- Right-click the Debug channel and select Enable Log.
- Reproduce the management problem or wait for the requested event.
- Right-click Debug and select Save All Events As.
Disable or leave the channel configured according to your organization’s support instructions after collection.

- Custom views
These logs are useful for application crashes, drivers, services, and operating-system problems, but they are not the same as the Settings app’s dedicated management-log export. Microsoft describes Event Viewer’s broader capabilities in its Windows system configuration tools documentation.
For IT administrators: collect diagnostics remotely with Intune
An administrator with suitable Microsoft Intune permissions may be able to collect a diagnostic package without asking the user to export files locally:
- Sign in to the Microsoft Intune admin center.
- Go to Devices > All devices.
- Select the target Windows device.
- Select Collect diagnostics and confirm the action.
- Monitor the request under Monitor > Device diagnostics.
- When it completes, open the action’s … menu and select Download.
- Save the resulting ZIP file using your organization’s approved process.
This is an administrator workflow, not a replacement for the end-user Settings procedure. Microsoft says the remote collection can include Event Viewer data and other device-management diagnostics. Its documented retention period is 28 days, with up to 10 collections per device at a time; those limits apply to Intune diagnostic collections, not necessarily to files exported locally through Settings. Settings export vs. Event Viewer vs. Intune

What to tell IT if the logs are inconclusive
Management logs may not be enough for every application-deployment, Windows Update, provisioning, enrollment-status-page, or security problem. Include:
- What failed and what you expected to happen
- The exact error code or message
- The application or policy name
- The approximate date and time
- Whether the issue affects one device or multiple devices
- Whether it began after an update, enrollment, account change, or network change
This context helps IT correlate local diagnostics with server-side records.
